Comment On Rimu Team Blog Ka Piopio - Kapa Haka & Kiwileles.

Hello Rimu Team, I am Havana from Rangikura School

I really enjoyed watching your Ka Piopio - Kapa Haka & Kiwileles.  You had some great moves/actions and very nice singing.  I saw that you made some mistakes but that's ok because it's normal and also everyone makes mistakes.  Lastly, I heard some background music it sounded nice and relaxing.

Kind regards

Havana

Title:
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid The Third Wheel
Author:
Jeff Kinney
Illustrator:
Jeff Kinney
Story Line:
Greg Heffley is struggling to find a date to the valentines dance.  He gets his best friend to be his wing man to help him find a date.  He is worried that he will be left out and won't get a date.

What I liked best:
My best part was when Greg Heffley got his dad's old leather jacket and wore it to school when his mum wasn't looking and later on at school he got all the attention suddenly his mum pounded on the door and took it of him and he had to go home in his mums dressing gown.

What I didn't like:
There wasn't a part that i didn't like.

Favourite character and why?
My favourite Character is Greg Heffley because he is funny he likes to play video games and he is weird.

Would I recommend this book?
Yes I would recommend this book, in fact I would recommend all of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid books/movies because they are good kids books easy to read funny.

Swimming Cerificates

These are my swimming certificates, I came first in breaststroke and second in backstroke.  We had to do freestyle and backstroke and if you wanted you could do breaststroke and butterfly.  I did breaststroke freestyle and backstroke some people had to do flutter board but I didn't.

On my first race it was freestyle I had a little bit of a sore tummy.  As one of the teachers blew the whistle (that meant go) I took a deep breath I freestyle all the way to the end racing my opponents.  The next race was backstroke I heard the whistle and race my appointments all the why to the end.  Now its my final race Brest stroke.  I hoped it the pool and waited for the whistle to go suddenly I heard it so I swam to the end and I was supersized because I came first.

Tips For Swimming:
Just race to the end
Do not look behind you

Moment In Time Week 7

Today our teacher asked us to write a ‘Moment In Time’ piece using a picture of a boy in the water.  We planned as a class to make sure we had the 5 W’s and the 6 Senses.

Before we began our writing in small groups we discussed the importance of using descriptive writing, using similes and metaphors where appropriate, using dialogue and have done our best to make sure our punctuation is correct.  Some of us have even used ‘Show Don’t Tell’ in our writing to provide our reader with more of an experience.

Our teacher gave us 10 minutes for each paragraph and then 10 minutes for editing at the end.  We had so much fun working together!

If you have a moment, we would love you to comment on our writing.

Boy Overboard!

Jack was heaving on his rod but it was stuck, he kept heaving and heaving he looked down to see where it was stuck, he leaned over to much and he face planted in the icy cold water gasping for air, he could feel sharks bumping into him and he could feel the fins under his feet, Jack was frightened.  He heard the boat slowly moving away from him, “Help! Help!” he cried.

Nobody could hear Jack’s lonely call.  Jack could smell the diesel engine moving further and further away.  Jack started to give up his hopes, goosebumps started forming on the sides of his arms.  He didn't know what to do…he said to himself “I don't want to die this way” with a frown on his face and tear in his eye.

He could feel the sharks getting closer and closer to him, a shark pounced out of the water and bit his shoulder, he could hear the bone shattering into a millions of pieces, Jack sunk to the bottom of the deep blue sea slowly rising up to the top.  “I’m alive!” Jack shouted.  Jack had one arm but he was still grateful that he was alive…

Written by Havana and Sonia.

Sonia:
I think I did well with giving ideas and fixing our punctuation.  I also learnt new words like heaving and pounced.  I had a lot of fun.

Havana:
I think I did well with my ideas, editing and fixing our work.  I we both did well making the story interesting.  I learnt words like heaving and diesel engine.  I had fun.

My Cross Country Run 2016

Yesterday the 11th of may the whole of pohutukawa and the seniors did cross country.  First some people were feeling nervous that includes me, I had a sore tummy.  My classroom got called to line up outside of our classroom.  When had to go out of the school grounds but not far.

The year five boys were at the start line.  A teacher said GO!. The boys raced off down the hill and across the road and around the corner then disappeared out of sight.  The year five girls lined up at the start. We had to wait a few minutes for the boys, my tummy was still sore like it was full of butterflies but I was also excited. GO! said a teacher, the girls and I raced down the hill but I jogged and paced myself so I save some of my energy

At first I was coming 4 but then I started to catch up, I passed one of them.  Then the other two kids started to slow down I past them too I was coming first.  I started getting a stitch, but I pushed myself and said to myself “Never give up”.  It started to get hard to breath so I walked for 5 seconds then carried on.

Now I was by the down hill bit some people said “you're the first girl keep it up”,  so I pushed myself a bit more. I past most of the boys I looked back I saw my friend so I jogged a little faster.  A few minutes later I saw the finish line but I hadn't gone past it yet so I kept going.  There were people clapping and cheering.  When I past the finish line I was so glad it was over.  I was First.

I felt surprised but happy because  last year I had come second and it was my friend who had beat me, but this time I bet her.

Matariki Celelbration

      Matariki

What Is Matariki
Matariki symbols the Maori new year in june.  People celebrate it in New Zealand.  Matariki is the seven brightest and clearest stars in the sky, there is actually 100 stars but you can only see seven.  They're in a group/bundle.  You can only see the stars when its is about half an hour to dawn before the vanish or disappear

How do the people celebrate Matariki
The way people celebrate Matariki is some people have a kite festival.  A kite festival is when lots of people go somewhere and fly kites (you don’t have to fly a kite).  Some people have a pukana chellong or a powhiri to welcome people and they can have lots of other things.

How my class celebrated matariki.
My class and my teacher Miss Hill's celebrated matariki by making a manu tukutuku we had buddies but my buddy Navaron wasn't here so I did it all by myself it was hard and challenging.  We used Harakeke, toe toe, wool and a little piece of black paper for the top.  We go to decorate our black paper so it wasn't plane and boring.  We have to divide our toe toe into 3 equal parts mine was 32 each part.  Then MIss Hill’s cut my toe toe.  Once she had cut it I had to put the middle stick on the table and put the other two on a side each so it went up diagonally (it looks like a triangle now) Then I got a piece of white wool and tied the top of my toe toes together so it wouldn't move and so it was stable.  Then I had to cut some pieces of harakeke to put across my manu toku toku.  Then I had to tie it to the toe toe so it would stay.  I tied it with two pieces of wool I chose purple and black for my middle one.  For my sides I chose  black and white wool.  When I was done I was so so so tired.  I was thankful that I had finished.  With the leftover pieces of the harakeke and toetoe We cut up and put it under the other harakeke bushed for nutrients and because it would help it grow.

The hardest part for me was when you had to tie the top of the toe toes together because I didn't have a buddy to hold it for me.  The easiest part was the black piece of paper because all you needed to do was decorate it and hot glue gun it to the manu tukutuku.   I had fun making my manu tukutuku.

NZ Opera

Jaxs fish ‘n’ Chips

Purpose:  Thank you note

Dear Jax

Thank you for coming to Rangikura School to share your opera show with us.

My most favorite part was when Nemo and Salesman did the handshake and smacked his but.  I really liked it when the Salesman was doing funny/funky moves, I would like to see some more funny/funky moves like that and I liked how he lied to Nemo with the elixir of love and gave him  L and P

I would really like you to do another show like that or come up with another handshake.
The singers were awesome at singing opera it sounded amazing and I would like to hear more opera.

Your sincerely

Havana.

My Duffy Books

Easy Blog Photo

These are my Duffy books that I received today.  The book on the left is The Pet War written by Allan Woodrow.  The book on the right is called Gizmo written by Ellen Miles.  I got 2 books because in term 1 you order 4 books and get 2 you only get to because when you order 4 books, if one of them has ran out you get the other book you ordered.  Most schools don’t get Duffy books because their parents pay for books but my school is one of the lucky schools because we dont pay for the books the school does.

Harakeke

Purpose: Inform (share our knowledge and facts)

Here is some inform about harakeke.  Harakeke is also known as flax.  Flax is often found in a garden.  Before you do anything to the harakeke you must say a karakia, you must say a karakia because it's respectful.  Also, you must not cut harakeke when it's raining you can only cut it on a sunny day once it's finish flowering and don’t cut the middle ones or the ones surrounding the middle ones, because the middle ones are the baby flax and the ones surrounding it are the parents and if you cut the babies or parents the plant will die.

My Poster About Me And My Family

This is my poster about me and my family if you cant see them or don't know what they are I will tell you.  My identity, mihi, what manaakitanga means to me, what whanaungatanga means to me and drawing the other half of my face.  I've been working on it for about 9 weeks.  You might think why I didn't just write it and ill tell you why I didn't just write it because that's just boring always writing stuff when you can do it in a fun way, that fun way is doing it with pictures or art and stuff like that.  I feel proud of my work because I spent a lot of time on it and I worked hard to get it finished.

My identity is my flag, family, what language I speck and my name.

My mihi is what school I go to, principal name, my teachers name, my room number, where i'm from, my family name and my name.

Manaakitanga means to me a good person that leads to things like this partner ship, participation, protection, happiness, kindness, friend ship, safe and nice and more words like that.

Whanaungatanga means to me that I will show hospitality, kindness, caring and friend ship and a scene of belonging to a group witch means they are asking to be apart of the group and agreeing to be nice, look after each other and be respectful.  ( with out Manaakitanga you wont have whanaungatanga )

drawing the other half of my face: first my teacher took a pitcher of me and printed it.  secondly, she cut it in half so their was the left and right half.  Then I practiced on the right half then I did it on the left half.  After that I coloured it in with pastel.  Lastly I died it blue and then I let it dry.  I was finally finished.

Remember you don't always have to write stuff you can do it in a fun way and if you come up with a fun way that I didn't mention please leave it on comment.  Thank you.
